Fuel line ideas

Im wondering what you all used for fuel lines as far as sizes for hose and fittings. I need to run fuel lines from my new production fuel tank under the drivers side running board. Thanks for any thoughts and ideas.

Depending on your engine/carb sizes, 5/16" line will supply enough fuel for about 250hp, if you run alot of rpm or large engine/carb the minimum I would use is 3/8". Run as much steel line as possible and try to keep rubber line use to a minimum for safety reasons.

If it's a stock set up, midfifty has a nice stainless pre-bent/ wrapped fuel line for $60. Just bought one for the '54 I'm restoring. It's 5/16". Dave's right, run as much metal as possible, and make sure it is not near any excess heat, or moving parts.

Thanks guys, I'll five mid fifty a call. The tank is a new poly tank but it's a reproduction of the tank under the running board. Do you know if mid fifty's comes with the return line?

There shouldn't be a return line. There never was on the truck originally. And theirs doesn't come with one.

Ok, does that matter if it's not stock? I'm running a 302 with a Holley 670 street avenger.

I have their poly tank and it is set up with a second port for a return or vent. I'm using a return line because I'm running a fuel injected motor.

3/8" in both directions.

ok, so should I just use it as a vent tube then? Also I looked at mid fifty's website but it looked like all the had were lines for the tank behind the seat. Would this matter or should it work all the same? Thanks again.

Ok, now I see what you're goin with. They have the one for the 53-55, under cab mounted tank. It's 5/16" though, and since you are running EFI, you will need the return system hooked up, unless it's aftermarket EFI, that is a returnless system. The return, can be 5/16", but the fuel pressure, and volume for an EFI system is typically needed to be the 3/8". Typically, NOT always. When I built the '63 Falcon I sold last November, it was a '91 5.0HO, with aftermarket programmable EFI. I ran 3/8" steel line, and high pressure rubber with aeroquip fittings for the rest. You should use 3/8", and that can be bought through NAPA, CarQuest, O'Reilly's, etc. What kind of efi are you using?

I'm not running EFI, its a 302 with a 4bbl Holley carb. The 302 is from a 78 Ford pickup so I stayed naturally aspirated.

I see, I misread, thinker cooters posting was yours. No, you don't need a return line. You can use the stock 5/16" fuel pipe. You won't suffer a fuel starvation due to line size on that.

Ok, thanks for the help. I won't worry about a return line then. Would you put in a vent tube or just close it off?

If you don't use a vented cap, then vent the port. They have "roll over" valves that you can likely put in there instead. Otherwise, just cap the port, and call it good.

Fifty-four my setup is a lot like yours except I do plan to stay with a return line. The motor I am using is allso a 302 with a four bbl Holley. The 78 I am pulling it out of has a return line and I just felt I would stick with the setup. The tank I am using already has three inlets.
