Question Transmission or Computer?

Recently while driving my truck I noticed it was jerking. It was shifting fine but when I got to about 50 mph and took my foot off of the gas it would start jerking forward. I took it to the parts store and they hooked up to the computer and said it wasn't putting out any codes but it might be the crankshaft sensor. Before I could get this part put on, the truck stopped moving period. When I put it any gear and push the gas, it revs up like it's in park. But I had my computer cleared and it went into gear fine. However, I called the local transmission guy and he told me that because it won't go in reverse it HAS to be a transmission issue because reverse is hydraulic and has nothing to do with the computer? This sounds strange to me and I just want to hear some opinions before I fix the transmission for $1500+ when it could be a $300 computer problem. Thanks for your help.
