Just an update, I am still running my coolant filtering setup with a WIX 33109 filter. I haven't noticed any adverse side effects. The coolant always looks clean when I pop the radiator cap. For $5.50 per filter, I will check and adjust the SCAs on my own. I might even look into a stand-alone water separator and use these filters for my fuel as well. It beats spending $35-40 per filter.

here she is boys.the first filter cut open after approx 7-8k miles.
she was no longer blowing real hot air in the cab when i checked,so i knew it was time for the first filter change already.
you can see all the sand casting crap that my water pump will be happy it never sees again.
what you see on my finger is just a little wipe from one of the seams in the filter.

few more.keep in mind iv got a new radiator,and this is fairly new coolant with low miles still.this isn't a poorly kept truck.
that there is factory sand casting that doesn't get removed from the coolant system any other way.
truck currently has 76k miles at time of this post.
oh fyi;
i didn't bother to drain any coolant.i just placed a rag below the filter and spun her off.
what little bit came out hardly was worth talking about.no shutoff valves required for me.
(but having your new filter ready to screw right back on doesn't hurt either lol.)

I copied this parts list a long time ago from a post. There was also a link in the last couple of weeks to a website that another guy had pics and a write up of a coolant filter.
Parts and Part Numbers Required: Installed in heater hose.
Napa #4019 (Coolant Filter Housing). Insure it is a filter housing and not a light bulb. I had to order mine. They usually wont have something like this in stock. I did so by phone and then came down to my nearest Napa, 20 miles away, just to find out it was a computer screw up they were happy to report My light bulb was waiting for me. After 15 minutes of phone calls we reordered the correct part.
Order One of the Following Filters:
Napa # 4070 Zero Units of SCA Charge
Napa # 4071 Four Units of SCA Charge
Napa # 4072 Six Units of SCA Charge
Napa # 4073 Eight Units of SCA Charge
Napa # 4074 Twelve Units of SCA Charge
Two Inch Angle Iron Four Inches in Length 1/8" Thick.
Two 6 foot packages of 5/8" heater hose. ( I changed my heater hoses so this is optional.)
Ten Hose Clamps ( Eight if you are not installing the Coolant Eye. I also replaced the factory clamps. So you will need only 4 or 6 if you do not replace the factory stuff.)
Two Brass T's: 1/2" Thread
Two Brass Nipples Close 1/2" Thread
Four Brass Hose Barbs 1/2" Thread by 5/8" Hose.
Can of Glossy Black Spray Paint
John Deere #TY16423 (Coolant Eye)
Teflon Tape.
