I just put a new 300 in my truck, it wont fire up.
I have spark, gas, air, everything. Still wont start. Maybe I'm off a little on timing, but as far as I know it's right on 0* TDC. All ignition parts are new and worked when old motor was pulled. Carb is new also. It just sits there and cranks, but no fire.
I have gone over and over and made sure I didn't forget to hook up anything. What's the deal???
I think Steve nailed it. You are probably timed on the exhaust stroke. Remove the #1 sparkplug, put your finger on the hole, and turn the engine until you feel compression. Then set the timing. I'll bet that the distributor shaft is 180 degrees off......
turned the dist. 180*, still no start, when I put it back where I had it now starts, but will only run for 2 or 3 seconds extremely rough then backfires through the carb and stalls.
