Registering an ATV

Talk about lame -

We're looking into getting a 4-wheeler, either a Honda Rancher or Foreman. Went to the local Honda place and when they worked up the numbers, there's a charge of $50 for registering it. We were told that this is a "new" annual registration requirement with all new bikes sold.

If we buy a used one from an individual, we don't have to register it.

I think that this is totally ridiculous!!! I mean, it's an off road bike that they fine you for if you're caught on the street riding it and now you have to pay an annual fee to own one????

That is lame. Are you sure the dealer wasn't just trying to get an extra $50 out of you? When I bought my Honda Foreman a couple years ago I received a title and they said I didn't even need to sign it unless I wanted to license it, that way when I sell it or trade it in it's easier. My dad just bought a new Foreman last Friday and he didn't say anything about having to register it. I'm sure if you do it is a state or county thing though. Keep us informed.

Probably just another CA thing... you know how "progressive" they are in that nation... oops, I meant in that state.
