My daughter called last night and said "My truck is breaking down and I'm coasting it into a convenience store." So I drive out to her and she describes the problem as she heard a pop, smoke came out and it was running real bad and making a noise. After performing the basic triage and getting vital signs I decide to try turning it over. Loud knocking and I didn't even let it start. I think the easiest way to diagnose is to drop the oil pan and look. My compression gauge is 157 miles away (as is the rest of my garage).
What do you think? Broken rod? Oil pan is the easiest access for looking? What could have caused a rod to break? She isn't a hot rodder. Can it be related to the crankshaft replacement last year? Maybe got fatigued? Any input is appreciated.
