2001 Ranger
First thing, the second day I had it I got smacked from behind from an idiot in some Dodge Neon. He smashed the **** out of my rear bumper and pushed it into the truck so far its sitting about an inch inside the box and tailgate, i can open the tailgate but it don't come down. THe body shop said that the frame has been tweaked a little bit, but is not a total loss. It pushed the box up in the front, its there but you have to be looking at it close to see it. I was wondering....can I take the 1999 Ranger bumper and put it on there? And do you guys think its worth keeping this ranger, its really nice otherwise, only 108k with the 4.0. Its got all the extras haha even a brushguard with floodlights. I like it a lot, but i was wondering do you think I can fix it? I just might throw a new bumper on it and once the tailgate starts opening i will just call it good.
I was recently under my 2000 - looks like the bumper is bolted to the frame (6 bolts I think) via a couple of brackets. If these are the items that were bent leaving the frame unaffected, then you might be in business. But if the box has been shoved forward, it sounds like the frame is compromised to some extent. Perhaps the bracket 'acordianed' in?
Sounds like a bummer: find something you like and enjoy it briefly before someone ruins it on you. Maybe there's away to pull this on back...literally.
