Rear end slip/"feels like a bump"
We need someone with expert drilling and tapping skills to step us throught the process of adding a grease fitting to this slip yolk. I feal like replacing the driveshaft and slip yolk is just postponing the problem. Simply greasing the yolk is all that is needed to fix the problem. But this must be done periodically and those driveshaft bolts make me nervous. They deform very easily. Plus the whole procedure of taking the driveshaft out is unnecessary. I wish I felt better about my drilling and tapping skills.

Well, they have had my truck for three days and say it won't be ready til tomorrow! They had to order a "slip yoke kit". Can anyone tell me what this "kit" includes and what would have been a reasonable amount of time for a dealership to fix this problem???

Rear end slip/"feels like a bump"
Hi bertrbr and welcome to FTE! Persistence and taking the shop foreman out for a test drive is all it took. He felt the "bump" and immediately diagnosed it as the slip yoke or drive shaft. He said it is NOT normal, but not an uncommon problem!
Hi Diesel Steve. It is covered under my 3yr/36K warranty. I don't know about any other that would cover one at 74K. I know the job is not a difficult one, so maybe it is not too expensive. I doubt it costs that much.
Good luck guys,
Mike

Dumb question - Is this something covered under any type of warranty? Is this an expensive repair?
I have a little over 74k on my truck.

As long as you set the emergency brake, and block your wheels, it's not an expensive repair at all... All it cost is the price of the grease, and tie straps to secure the boot (since you have to cut the metal strap off.) If you forget about the emergency brake, and blocking the wheels, it can cost you a neighbors mailbox, new rear bumper, and the cost of a trip to the emergency clinic, along with a messed up ankle and major road rash on your back!!!
Not that I know this from experience...:-staun :-staun
Monsta---Just thought I would beat you to it this time!!!

Picked up my truck today after the dealer fixed the slip yoke on warranty. Big difference! The truck is quicker off the start and just feels more powerful. You guys who have been told nothing is wrong or its normal by your dealers, take it from me, there is something wrong. Fortunately, it is an easy fix. Hopefully this problem will not reoccur! Take it easy.
