'66 "barn" find and Warranty plate check please

While looking through Craigslist for '66 pickup stuff, I stumbled onto an estate sale in Seattle that mentioned a Bronco. Normally I am all pickups, but since I had to be in Seattle today to transfer a title on another vehicle and the guy didn't show up, I figured to go take a look. I think I am glad I did.

There was a super solid Bronco that had been sitting in the garage since 1983. It had been hit in the passenger's side which damaged the front fender, inner fender and door. Looks like they started to fix it (replacment door installed, replacement fender is present; and then just quit. The floor pans are imaculate and underside has no rust at all that I could see. They were planning to auction it starting at $2500, but weather was so crummy only a few people showed. When I offered $1000, no one else said a thing; I was really surprised. Anyway, this is my first Bronce and I am quit excited.

I could not find the warranty plate (don't know where to look) but the perhaps the serial on the title will help. It reads: U13FL734868.

Picking her up tomorrow. Already has a tow bar attached just needs air in the tires.

Thanks.

If it is indeed a U13 it is the rarest of the three Bronco's made. U13 is a Roadster, U14 half cab, U15 Wagon. Vin comes back to made in Michigan in Aug of 66 making one of the earliest made. Could be a really good find. Make sure the vin numbers match tag and frame. Post some pic's when you get it home.

It wasn't my intention to "tease", but I did have a bit of bad luck yesterday. I lost the rear axel on my '68 F250 and spent the day with that. Fortunately it didn't happen when I was towing the bronco back...yikes that would have been bad.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Well now that it is out of the garage and in the light, I can see there is MUCH work to be done. Original engine has been replaced. Supposedly it now has a '67 240 I-6. The beat-up top was aquired through a trade for the original rims. I'd rather have the rims myself. But it is still pretty cool in my book.<o></o>

Now that you have helped me to find the warranty plate (see third picture of gallery in previous post). Can you tell me if it is supposed to be attached with the phillips head screws you see in the picture? On pickups, they used a special rivet; Broncos I don't know.

As you can see this plate was painted over when the truck was changed from green to white. I am thinking to unscrew it and clean the white paint off.

No, the vin plate was riveted. Nice dash pad, looks to be really good condition. I'd check the frame vin#. Attaching a pic of where to look.

Don't know bout '66. mine's on the inside of the glovie door with the weird-circular-hole-in-the-middle rivets. If it's NOT original Marti can make U one up to be oem.

Thanks a bunch for the pic. I got dial up n the 1st link the 1st 3 didn't come up, the 2nd link the 2nd & 3rd were no go.

I know I aint U but the 300 I6 is about my favorite motor (4 what I do) in the bronk so that 240 is pretty close. Not bein a Bronco guy (well, now U is!) can U tell how they did it? Unusual mounts or towers, radiator moved? That motor is loooong and heavy for a bronk (so kinda tough to balance @ that frnt axle - not as bad as the 4BT though!).

(Hey! Richard! R those clifford's headers on yer 203?)

No, just a photo I had saved. That transfer case shifter looks like a later model "J" style style. The engine, if it's a 240ci I6 big block, it will have a seperate head and intake instead of cast together like a 170 or 200 small block six.

I found a second I.D. plate under the hood on the driver's side. It is mounted on the vent ducting and has the same information as the one on the driver's kick panel.

I have not checked the number against the frame stamping yet.

Got her started today. Needed new points and the carb cleaned out. I also had to replace the pump mounted fuel filter since the gasket had rotted away from sitting. She smoked for about 5 minutes and then that went away; runs like a top.

The clutch linkage seems sort of screwed up...need to figure that out.

Second id plate is commonly reffered to as a "dog tag". Rare to find one still with it.
