I have a 90 f250 with a 5.0 automatic tranny. The starter went out 2 days ago, so i replaced it, but now when i try to start it, it makes a click like its tryin to turn the engine over but it wont. I do not think the engine blew because it shut down fine and i never had a problem with it besides for a pan gasket and head gasket. Do 5.0's have any weak points in the starting system that i should check, and also how can i turn the engine over by hand manually to see if it still turns freely, thanks Mike
Check your connections Battery terminals and selonoid etc. Are terminals bad gooey or corroded loose etc. Was the starter really bad ?? or was it a connection issue???

Sounds like it might be the solinoid. Try jumping the solinoid by putting the key in the run position and putting a screwdriver across both terminals or if your solinoid has the terminals on the sides rather than the front use a big set of channel locks. If the starter
engages you'll know it's the solinoid. In case you don't know the solinoid is located on the inner fender about six inches from the battery. Just follow the positive cable from the battery it will go right to one of the terminals. I seem to go through one about every 2 years.
