i have an 85 ford f150 4x4, 4 speed (np435) and i am doing a clutch job on it and i unbolted the transfer case (np208) from the tranny extention. then it wouldn't come off, it comes out like a inch but then stops. I am stumped any help would be great.
I hate to start off with these questions, but we HAVE to eliminate these possibilities before continuing:
Have you dropped the rear driveshaft?
Have you unhooked the shift linkage?
I'm gonna assume you have, so try prying in the gap. There should be nothing holding it on, so it might just be a burr on the alignment stud. Make sure it's not starting to droop & binding up. If you hold it up in line, it should slide off.
Just curious why you would separate the transfer case from the tranny when doing a clutch job? I found it easier to drop both together.
Now that you did separate the transfer case, I'm curious..
what was inbetween the transfer case and tranny in the way of gasket or was it just silicone?
My 208 has had a SLOW leak for years - coming from the main gasket between the two halves. Can I just pop it apart and replace the gasket (& with what sealer)?
You should be able to just replace the gasket, but go to Ford to see if the used a silicone type selant or a gasket and if they used a gasket buy one then change it out.
