Are you talking about the steering cylinder? If so get ready for a costly repair. I priced a new/rebuilt one just recently and it was $240 w/ a $150 core!!! I had no luck finding a rebuild kit or even someone who would rebuild it. I used a slightly different approach to fix mine though. I went to an industrial supply co. here in town and ordered a 1 1/2" bore 8" stroke double acting hydrolic cylinder. I had to fab up mounts for it but it works great and best of all it only cost me $100. There's a place in Texas that sells cylinders like this if you can't find a local place but they want like $150 for them. It's www.westtexasoffroad.com if your interested.
I'm rebuilding my strg cyl as we speak. It cost me a wopping 91 cents for the seals. the piston takes a positive seal and the head gland takes a 2 poly packs. You just need to take it to a machine shop to v-out the weld for disassembly and either polish the rod or make a new one 5/8" chrome stock is cheap. As long as the cyl bore is OK to hone youve got it licked I can provide part #'s for seals if this is what you need. I work for a company with a machine shop and thus pay no labor for machine work. Thats why I pay only 91 cents. If you have any qeustions please ask. As for the valve, mark all lines for assy. and o-rings will do the job there. Hope this helps.
You might just go ahead and do a 78-79 power steering conversion on that old beast! I think you were refering to the control valve/draglink not the ram cylinder itself?
