Just had Ford's CSB 11B23 flash performed at my local dealer. First impressions are not much of a difference other than the LOM shows anywhere between 19.4 and 20.2 MPG. I know Ford tightned some tolerances for potential fault detection but WHAT did they do to make an apparent/alledged mpg increase ?
Curious, and I highly doubt it but has anyone heard of someone doing a baseline dyno before update and after update ? For mpg variances I know timing and/or fuel maps must have been altered. Wonder what it did to HP/TRQ ? I wonder if they were negatively impacted to provide "more protection" to our engines....
Has anyone actually looked at the fuel curves, timing charts etc for the new flash so as to be able to make an educated/experience based guess as to what affect this flash has on performance(HP/TRQ) ??
Lie-O-Meter be damned, if you wanna keep it real and get the straight scoop on your mileage, you gotta hand calculate it. Fuelly is an awesome tool to track your MPG and know what works and doesn't. I didn't read anywhere in the notice where it stated increased MPGs, (?) but wouldn't be surprised if some dealers were saying that to drag people in to get it done, which is something Ford corporate probably wouldn't be too happy about...

I don't think there is any reason to expect any change in MPG, none was suggested or promised in the letter. Purpose of the flash was to change the parameters under which your truck will shut down and go limp to protect the engine from harm. Nothing else should change. However, a number of folks have stated that their "cleaning exhaust filter" message stays on only briefly. That change was in a flash that was done last year but I guess some either didn't get it or bought new trucks that didn't get it before being shipped.
