i have a 1969 f-100 2wd i am taking out the 390 and c6 tranny i am installing a 1978 460 with c6 out of a lincoln continental. what are some of the changes i will have to make to bolt the 460 into the truck? are some of the early c6 trannies with a really long tail shaft an overdrive tranny or not?
You will need 1973/79 F100/350 460: R/L engine supports (aka towers, stands, perches ~ D3TZ-6028/6029-A). R/L brackets (D3TZ-6030/6031-A ~ these bolt to the block, the insulators bolt to these, then to the supports) and rubber insulators (2-D3TZ-6038-A).
The transmission bracket (D3TZ-6A023-A ~ same as 1973/76 F100/350 360/390 C6) and rubber insulator (1-D3TZ-6068-A).
460 Passenger Car engine mounting parts will not work in trucks, and no C6 (regardless of what year it is), came with overdrive.
You will discover that the C6 Passenger Car's output shaft and extension housing are a different length than what your C6 has now, necessitating modifying the driveshaft.
The only alternative is tearing the trans down, swapping in the output shaft/extension housing from your present C6, but unless you have A/T trans skills, I would not suggest doing this as you'll be opening a "can of worms."
btw: All the above parts are obsolete, I typed the Ford part numbers for clarification.
ok thanks i will go to bone yard monday and see about finding some of those frame mounts and motor mounts i wasnt sure if they would inter change that easy also i have been trying to find out what gears are in the lincoln continental that it got is says 2:50 and 461 on the tag im thinking it is a 2:50
