Newby!!

I just purchased the truck of my dreams. a 2005 crewcab 6.0 4wd with a 4 in lift. After having the truck for 1 day it did not want to start finnaly it did. I got 1 mile down the road and the truck died. I had it towed to a ford dealer and the told me the FICM and the high pressure oil pump were bad and it would cost $3100.00. So i said go ahead then I get a call telling me the oil cooler is bad and it would be another $1500.00. Is there anything else that could go wrong? Please someone make me feel good about my new truck!

what are the odds a high pres oil pump and a ficm would both go on the same day

you came to the right place anyway welcome to fte

if your mechanicly inclined you can trouble shoot your truck with the info in the tech folder and if ya get stuck theres always somebody thats been there done that and some great ford techs that contribute there time on here as well

I would defently get a secound op. That sounds really high! If you do indeed need an oil Cooler you should also be sure to replace the EGR cooler with it. If it's at a dealer they are most likely including that in the Oil cooler price. Where are you located at?

An extra $1500 for the oil cooler ($200 part) that is unreal! It's right where they are going to be working anyway and only takes a few minutes to replace when they are that deep into it already for the HPOP. Sounds like they are preying on you.

Did they include any KY in the order? Man it sounds expensive to pay for some1 to work on these things. I wonder if they charged you labor rate for each part? Might ask them about it. $1500 for a $200 part that should add no more than 2 hours onto the current scope of work. hmm the FICM and HPOP die at the same time? If its not to late, I would get a 2nd opinion or ask to see the codes yourself.

I would recommend getting a bulletproof EGR cooler with a lifetime warranty over the OEM cooler. Also look at adding a coolant filter to the truck. You can get a Sinister Kit for about $125 shipped off ebay. Remove 1 bolt next to the radiator to install. Cut 2 hoses and tighten 4 hose clamps and your done! The Sinister kit comes pre-assembled.

Winning!
Duh!

Did you buy it from a private party? Is there any kind of law about buying a truck that breaks in a day?

if it didnt smoke when you brought it in you dont need a egr cooler Im with them on the oil cooler IF ITS OUT OF SPEC!!!

ya just didnt take it to ford for white smoke or coolant puke or hydro lock or coolant out the tail pipe,
these are the normal signs of a failed egr cooler I would ask them if they pressure tested the egr cooler It may of had a pinhole but I doubt it

a bad oil cooler will takeout the egr cooler you just didnt have any of the tale tale signs of the egr going bad yet

when you get some money saved back up I would invest in a scangaugeII to help protect yourself from things like this and study the tech folder
www.scangauge.com around 160.00 $$ and it will monitor most of the expensive stuff you just had done

If you replace the oil cooler or Egr cooler you should always replace them both at the same time.

I second this question, where did you buy it? If from a dealer, there is almost definately laws to protect you after owning it a day. Even if there are not lemon laws in your state a threat of a call to the BBB goes a long way.

Sounds like your dealing with a parts hanger and not a true mechanic, would definately have a reputable mehanic look into this before you spend that cash. Where are you located so we can get you hooked up with someone descent?

EDIT: Just saw your in GA, didn't happen to get this truck from or take it to Bill Hewitt at powerstroke help did you??? There are mixed opinions about him here, not many are very good.
