Computer Failure?

I have a 1998 F150 4.6 2wd 4R100 transmission. I was driving yesterday, accelerating when at 40mph the truck shut off completely. The overdrive light came on and will not restart. Tried to connect a reader and was unable to link. Does anyone have an idea what is the problem?

First thought is a blown fuse or loss of power for some reason.
The PCM likely has no power.
The OD light is secondary to the main issue of sudden shut off, at this time.

I went back to the truck this morning and it started right up. After I let it warm up and drove it about a mile i shut it off. I went to start it and once again it would not start.

Temperature sensitive!.
You will have to track down what type of failure by testing for spark then for fuel when in failure mode.
The first thing that is needed is the signal from the crank sensor to tell the computer the crank is turning over and to find spark sync and to turn on the fuel pump.
The cam sensor senses off the camshaft rotation and syncs the fuel injection timing.
At this point one can only guess until you get some idea of the type failure.
Good luck.

Is there a PCM relay on the F150. If so I think that could explain why it is an intermittent problem. It would also explain why I cannot link to the OBDII reader.

Got it running again. Turned out to be the relay to the PCM
