Ok, so i have some bad injectors (one, two, three, i don't really know how many). i'm moving in a couple months from San Diego to Newbergh NY (about 3000 miles) and driving the truck the whole way. We have all kinds of things that we have to spend money on with the house we live in before we can move out, but i also know that i have bad injectors. If i can't get the injectors fixed before we move, how bad will it be to drive that far like it is?
i had everyone watch this video and even jim said it's missing... the only symptoms i've had is when i'm in a higher gear at lower speeds and hit the gas, anytime it's below 1500 rpm, it shakes like it's got parkinson's. it's been so rough it's made the dash trim fall off before, and my wife won't ride in it. i thought it was the fuel filter at first, changed it out, still same.
I didn't see any white smoke but it does sound like its missing. I thought about my white smoke theory, it doesn't apply. If a injector is not firing there is no fuel in the cylinder, duh.
Pulling the VC's isn't that bad. A couple bolts in the back are tricky to get to, but do-able with a u-joint and extensions.
Best way to check individual injectors is to pull the valve covers one at a time and then start the truck (don't worry it won't throw oil). Then unplug the electrical connector for each injector one at a time. If the idle doesn't change when that injector is unplugged it isn't firing. That's how Jim told me to check it when I was having problems and a bad miss.
Ya, but you'll still be able to tell by it hitting on 6 instead of 7. I do agree it would be best to pull both vc's, but if he's in a hurry, and money is tight, you should be able to tell the sound difference and get to it.
