Question Nomal operating tem for 82 E-350?

I've got an 82 E-350 with a 400, automatic trans, and 195F thermostat. Can someone with a similar vehicle give me an idea of what water temps your vehicle normally operates at around town and on the highway? Thanks, John

Never had a van, but the various Ford vehicles I've owned always seem to stay pretty near the thermostat temp unless it's really hot outside. 195 on several of them seemed to be around the "O" on the the word "NORMAL" on the guage. One way to tell if your thermostat is working and what the thermostat temp reads on the guage is to watch it carefully after you first start it up on a cold morning. After running awhile, the guage will climb up, usually a little above the thermostat temp, and then you will see the guage fall down a little. Then it will rise again, then fall again till it finally settles on the thermostat temp. The guage rises and falls because when the cold water from the radiator is let into the engine by the thermostat, it's too cold and the thermostat closes again.
