SO GUYS! Some news from the wierd side of the world. I was walking down the sidewalk In Adder, Iraq here near Talill. And you wont believe what I saw. A 1992 F-350, with HMMMV tires on it with bolt together combat rims and all, then they used some really odd stuff for the exhaust, 3" Square steel tubing (IDK WHY). No muffler thats why I could tell it was an IDI from the clacking of it when it started lol. I couldnt believe that somehow the United States army had an F-350 Shipped here for driving around on base. I was shocked lol. Its got only 38k miles on it(yes I drove it around) No Turbo, Original IP and injectors. The unit that owns it, says it has never left the military base it was at since 1992. And only was driven once a week. A true treasure lol. I just wanted to share this with you I will get some pictures of it this week sometime. I just wanted to say this and how neat that IDI's have seen Iraq and will come back to tell the tale.
This also proves something else for these old engines, you can run them on JP-8 without any additives. I found this out because the unit that owns the truck said they filled it with JP-8 because the base ran out of DF-2. It got roughly 16 mpg on the JP-8. But I just thought it was awesome lol.
haha that is awesome.... we have a old blazer in my unit from the 80's that's still kickin she's a diesel theyv'e taken real good care of the engine over the years but the interiors trashed lol
running JP-8 in it will more than likely kill it at some point. those engines arn't meant for that stuff it'll even ruin the HUMVEE's over time. at least thats what i was told

Hey man, thank you for your service.
However, I don't think this "proves" that you can run an IDI on JP-8. How many miles did they run it on JP-8? Just a tankful? I mean, just because you can run it on something that burns, in a pinch, doesn't mean you're not doing long-term damage to your IP or injectors. I'd sure be interested to see some long-term data running it on an alternative fuel, though.
Did they do anything extra, like put some ATF in with that JP-8?
I know I was told that jet fuel, aka kerosene, was too "dry" run an engine on straight....so, they probably haven't put a lot of miles on it with the jet fuel but I'm sure it's scuffing up the inside of that IP pretty bad.
its not good for the engines not even the armys land vehicles engines but it does get used in them when the regular diesel supply runs out.... it doesn't carry the lubricating properties DF-2 has.
THey have run JP-8 in it since it got here....in 2003. I thought they did it once, they have been doing it for 12k miles now....no damage to anything so far. PICS SOON! It was too dark when I got back from Mission today sorry guys. And i will post some pics of the lightskin HMMMV from the Movie Black Hawk Down.
AND btw...where we are at, they have introduced Emissions Controls here, been seeing a lot of the old crappy vehicles going to the scrapheap and the government is helping the citizens buy NEW CARS!! The Iraqi Police Force has 07-10 F-350's with 6.4 strokes in them, a whole MASSIVE fleet of them lol.
