My first thread - a big thanks!
I was in the market for a large SUV (transporting three kids in car seats on a regular basis as well as 2-3 teenage boys) and, after a lot of research, settled on the Ford Excursion. Through my considerations this forum has been one of my primary influences helping me limit down to exactly what I was looking for in my 'new-to-me' vehicle. After about 5 months of research, lots of dead ends, and some pretty frustrating test drives and negotiations I have brought home my new baby!
On 04/07/2011 I brought home my 2001 7.3 PSD Excursion Limited 2WD. For those wondering the details - 83k miles, perfect Carfax, 2 owner, and $23k out the door. It had everything I wanted except the rear seat DVD system (no factory available obviously). I have had it inspected by a local Ford dealer and found no issues so I am proud to call it mine and post about it here.
The changes/mods I plan to make at this time are mostly cosmetic - Weathertech floor mats for front and both back rows as well as the cargo area, hood bug guard to match existing installed window rain deflectors, Audivox rear roof mounted DVD with ~10" monitor with 4 wireless headsets, portable head rest DVD for the 3rd row, Dashmat to cut down on the front window glare, and a remote start system.
Long term I am thinking about the AFE Stage 2 and the MBPR 4" that people here have had such luck with the understanding that the power and MPG benefits are a secondary possible 'benefit' compared to the improved sound and appearance of the car.
In my opinion my find was an incredible bit of luck for such low mileage and I am very satisfied with my price paid. This forum was definitely an invaluable source of knowledge about the vehicle (positive and negative) as well as providing some great suggestions on improvements that I can make to it in the future.
I am a big fan of consistent dealership recommended maintenance services (yes I know that means that I sometimes overpay but I tend to develop good relationships that help when I do have major repairs come along and I am picky about which dealership I work with) and keeping cars for the long term so I hope to one day post about my 300k+ mile, 25 year old and still kicking X driving my baby girl to college (I can dream!).
Thank you all again and proud to be a member of the forum. Pics coming after mats and video are in!
Big Pig Daddy was right....you've been lurking long enough to know that
'no pictures' wouldn't cut it here!
I've got pics in an album/gallery....wherever that is located on this site. I'm still learning to navigate, too! Oh wait, Navigtor is Lincoln...sorry....

K.
