Coolant Leak, help!

Ok, I have a coolant leak. If I drive alot in one day, my reservoir empties.

I replaced all hoses. I see no leaks visibly. I have a little condensation on my oil filler cap. I changed my head gasket and had the head shaved. The oil is not milky. I have a new radiator cap. My truck has 130,000 miles. Engines never got hot.

Any suggestions?

THANKS !!

I would recommend a pressure check of the system and if that checks out maybe a cylinder pressure check to make sure the head is not leaking. I think your motor is eating it.

You didn't mention your heater core, but I don't think your problem is there.

Thanks Ultra., I checked it out, noticed no leaks. I think I'll have a pressure test done and hopefully the core or radiator will leak and I'll see it.

Coolant Leak, help!

I too had a coolant leak and couldn't locate it. Do you notice a coolant odor? And if you get down under the truck and look up at the back of the engine is it wet?

The reason I ask is that my leak was from a crack in the heater inlet tube that comes out of the intake manifold and is connected to the hose that goes into the heater core. There is also a tube that runs under the lower intake manifold that also connects to the heater core which could also be a potential leak source.

I went to the local parts dealer store and they had no information on the heater inlet tube - they swore it was a threaded connection and they would have something to replace it. Even my Ford dealer (parts guy) had no idea how it connected to the manifold - he even gave me a copy from the parts manual. Well after tearing the top off my engine and removing the manifold I found it to be a force fit connection - no threads. Had to apply some heat and use a chisel from the back side to punch out the broken tube. Am off to my dealer to get the replacement which is only about $20.
