Hi Team - I've always loved the look of these trucks and finally bought a 97 F250. She is already lifted up 6 inches and came with a TS chip and straight piped and what looks to be a custom air intake. I will gather some pictures once I find my camera. It has just over a quarter million miles on it and the motor and trans are original. (auto)
I don't have much knowledge to give but I have much to learn. Including this little blinking OD light on my shifter. I was unaware that was a code when I bought the truck. Thats my fault for being uninformed. I just hope the Transmission lasts a few months until I can get some reserve funds saved. I'm excited to learn and share info on my journey forward.
If the trans is acting OK my WAG is: The RABS on the top of the rear differential. Try removing and cleaning the debris from the end (it's magnetic). Check the wires, connector and pins going to it too. Look though the hole in the housing and rotate the drive shaft, be sure the exciter ring is running straight (no side to side) with no missing teeth.
Cuda_Jim - Thanks for the tips...I will print it off and bring it to somebody that knows more about these than I do. I have to learn everything as I go but I'll look into that this week....
The Trans shifts quick and hard. The previous owner said there was a shift kit put to assist in towing. Different stages of the TS chip will make it shift differently. In the 50hp setting it shifts smoother, and the 75 will shift rougher. Since I don't have upgraded injectors I haven't used the higher performance settings and I don't know what stock is like as I haven't found where I can unplug the chip, or how to reset it back to factory settings.
It got 13.5 MPG on my 5 hour trip back from atlanta at about 75 MPH. I am not disappointed with that, but was hoping for better. I see a lot of tips on here, so I'll try some of them out. Thanks again
Nice truck! My truck had the same issue with the hard shift and the blinking od light..... ended up being a tranny slip code, the trans basically goes into limp mode and boosts up the line pressure to try and stop the slip. I ended up clearing the code with a Matco scanner and it went away for a while, but i would get it cleared as soon as possible to prevent more issues.
Like Smash said. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but most likely the trans needs rebuilt, especially with those miles. I put some Lucas no slip stuff in mine and made it 1,800 miles home before the rebuild. Welcome and very nice truck!
