Hey folks we are planning a trip to the Hill Country in Fredericksburg after our refueling outage. It dawned on me (yes, I'm not a rocket scientist ) that I need to consider the condition of the u-joints and carrier member with 140k on the truck.
No present symptoms of loose tolerances like a clank when changing direction like reverse to fwd. or anything but I do not want a break down on the road. Most of the mileage has been as a daily driver but now towing will be the norm. I'm thinking that this will accelerate an already worn set of U-joints. I'd like to solicit your input based on the years of driving and towing experience on this board.
If it makes you feel better I would change out the u-joints and carrier bearing. They are not hard to do. Otherwise run it until they start to give notice of failure.
