I jumped feet first into owning an old Ford Truck, and I don't regret it one bit. It's a 68 F250 with a 390, auto and 2wd. Although I own a 2000 F150, I wanted something that I know I could work on without causing serious financial strain on the wallet.
The one big challenge I have at this moment is to try and get the wiring straightened out. One of the previous owners hacked at the wires in an attempt to install a third party turn signal. I have succeded in getting the turn signals rewired into the original wiring. Hopefully when the 1968 F100 to F350 wiring guide arrives I can finish up the wiring and be able to drive it legally.
As soon as the weather begins to cooperate I'll take some photographs and post them for everyone to see.
If the wiring is really screwed up you might consider buying a new loom. I think FTE offers them and I have seen them elsewhere too. They aren't that expensive and it would be great to replace the whole thing with proper color coding, connectors and so on.

Do those looms come with the proper connectors on them? Or do you have to move them over? I was also thinking of putting new wiring in my truck... mine is so old and brittle these days. I've seen some of those universal harnesses and it appears you would have to move all your connectors over somehow.. which looks like it would be pretty tough.
All the wiring is the original except for the turn signal wires(thank God). For now for the sake of ease I am using connectors to connect them back together but when I'm done I am going to go back through a sodder them back together. And I've priced a new wiring harness at 320 bucks, so I figured I would do it this way and if it didn't work I would buy the new harness.
Great truck you got there! Sounds like you already got a handle on the wiring. It's been a while since I've looked at the '68 wiring diagrams but seem to remember some of the wire color codes did not match my '68 even though the routing was correct. As long as the wires go to the right place, don't worry about it.
