i have been having this problem for 3 weeks now i thought it was the carb so i rebuild it and it still has the problem, whats happing is when im doing 55mph or more after a minute of driving the truck acts like its running out of fuel i drop down to 35 it starts to run again. i have been scratching my head at this for a while could it be a fuel pump i have never seen a pump work one minute then not work the next it has a new fuel pressure valve on it as well if anybody has any ideals please let me know i cant even tow with the truck right now
Sounds like it could be the fuel filter. My experience with these is they get partially blocked, but work in town. However, when you get out on the highway it runs very rough and loses power until you get back to a lower speed. If it's been a while since you replaced your fuel filter, you might try that. The next step would be to check the codes from the computer.
I would take the fuel cap off the filler to the gas tank, and run it removed and see if the problem goes away. If it does, you know the gas tank has a breathing problem.
i changed the fuel filter on the truck plus i installed an aftermarket fuel filter before the fuel pump on the frame rail where would the tank vent be?

The Tanks and fuel system is vented by either the evaporative emissions system. All EFI engines use the evap emissions system.
This system consists of...
1: The Charcoal Canister.
2: Canister Purge Solenoid (or valve)
3: Vapor lines from fuel tank(s) to charcoal canister.
4: Non-vented Fuel Caps
5: PCV valve (For purge operation of Charcoal Canister)
Trucks without evaporative emissions vent through the Fuel Caps. Why it's so important to get the right fuel caps.

Fuel Pump along the frame rail? Aftermarket filter? This does not seem right. Do you have pictures?
I need some information...
What year is the truck?
What size engine?
What Model? (F-100/F-350)
Feedback Carb, or regular carb?
Single or Dual Tanks?
49 state or California Emissions?
Pictures of this Fuel pump would help. Carbed engines should have a mechanical pump located on the engine (with exceptions to the 460 with Hot Fuel Handling).
I set the floats to spec I found out that my truck has dual fuel pumps in the tanks electric pumps what I think has happen is the screen in the front tank is rottten and almost clogged for 57 bucks I can get a new pump and screen I would use the back tank but it's got a quarter sized rust hole in it plus I have a heavy Duty hitch that is under the rear tank and it's welded to the frame
The truck is a 1983 ford f-250 460cu it is a Texas truck with the smog control it has dual tanks and dual eletric pumps the truck has a 600cfm holley on it
ok thanks to everybody who replied to my post the problem the whole time was my fuel pump screen and the pump when i pulled it out of the tank it fell apart in my hand the pump was barely attached to the unit so i ended up changing the whole sending unit with new pump and screen set me back $150 bucks but i can drive highway speeds now and smoke hondas again thanks everybody
