Emergency mechanical question.

Hey guys, I started installing more mods and cleaning up my baby (in the sig) only to find the body AND frame are in pretty bad shape with corrosion. I have a chance to buy a 2003 crew dually, with 4WD that has a blown .60 in it. I need to know (fairly quickly Im afraqid) if my 7.3 PSD will bolt right into this truck, or will I have drivetrain issues?

2003 F350 dually, 4WD w 6.0. Need to swap my 99.5 7.3PSD from 2WD.

Thanks much amigos!

I realize it is work. What I am looking for is will my motor bolt right to the trans in the 6.0? I don't know what tranny they put in those '03's. Anyone?

No, the engine will not bolt to the 5r110 trans. You will need to install the 4r100 with the 7.3, but everything is different with the two engines.

OK, thanks guys.
So, if I keep looking, the easiest switch will be for a straight swap? Going 99.5-03 7.3 for the same? The 2WD to 4WD should be no issue, right? My motor, interior, everything is good except body. I even found holes in the roof and corners above doors
Thanks for the answers.

No problem with the engine switch from a 2wd to a 4wd, but the trans will need new output shafts to work on a 4wd if from a 2wd.

OK, thanks again Rick. I am hoping to pick up something with a good trans anyway, so hopefully it'll just be the engine swap. Appreciate the input anyway.
The 03 I was looking at with a flatbed just sold for a hair over 4k.

I've tried before and my account for some reason doesn't allow me to. Either way, the rust isn't the only reason I want to change the chassis. I am considering making this a company truck/ TOY, rather than a TOY/ primary runner . I would put a flat or dump bed onto it and can much easier justify spending a few grand on a bulkier truck (350 - 550) that already has one. I could also use 4WD where I am now and then. I then wouldn't mind going from a crew to super cab, or even regular cab for the right truck, as I will HAVE to have a bigger second vehicle for the kids. My 2nd truck right now is a super cab Ranger and they have pretty much outgrown it....... I know, I had my 4yr old and three other girls going to a ballet class yesterday!

OK, one.....or maybe two last questions; (that isn't a promise, btw)

If I am looking for a swapper, am I right to think I can change my engine directly into another '99.5-03 truck with gas or 7.3PSD? Is the tranny the same in the gassers?
Also, can I look at a 99.5 - 08 with a 6.0 in it if I put my engine and trans in? Or is the drivetrain different in the 6.0L? Would using my trans from a 2WD present any problems going to a 4WD? I have no idea of how the forward transfer case is picked up, is it the same trans again?

Thanks a lot for answering, and for ignoring my ignorance.

Cheers,
