He should know the shift pattern regardless of the ****, and like I said, would have to do some real stupidity to that tranny to booger it up like that. Keep us posted.
Agreed...Not to put words in your mouth, But how could someone who claims to be a mechanic not know where first gear is???

My thoughts exactly. They all are pretty much in the same place, to the left and up.

try and get the shop to pay for it. they all have insurance that will pay for the mechanics mistake. either that or they will pay it to shut you up so you dont go and destroy their reputation. either way, if it worked when you dropped it off, it should be better when you get it back

My two cents (probably all it worth )..... surely a mechanic worth his salt knows how to find 1st gear! Gimme a break!!! You could blindfold me and put me in a car or truck and I'll find first gear. I'd put big money on the fact that 99.9999% of the people on here would too. The story seems fishy to me or a real lame excuse. Hate to say it but some shops will tell you whatever BS they can because your a woman and may not know better. Sad but true.

Edit: I guess I took too long to type my comment. You guys beat me to it!

Agreed, Javo. Confusing first and third is not gonna do it (matter of fact, I often take off in my high geared/supercharged Mustangs in second, perfectly fine practice. Sounds like it was either the mechanic really having some fun with the truck when your back was turned, or it was just one of those things that happened at the wrong time (for the mechanic) on an old transmission, and was going to happen regardless of who drove it.

Easy now, your making me jealous! lol

Love my truck, but love my Stang too. Kinda feels like driving a go cart after driving the superduty all the time.

Blue oval or nuth'n in my driveway.

Lol, thanks! Yup, same here... Blue Oval all the way. With seven Mustangs, an F-350, and a Harley, I am definitely an American made kinda guy.

You guys are awfully quick to blame the mechanic. That tranny should not stick in a gear, no matter what the guy did. Should a shop have to pay for any failure that just happens to occur while the truck is in his shop? It is obvious to me that something was wrong with that tranny before he ever touched the truck.

Based on your theories, next time I have tranny problems, I'll head on over to the tire shop for some new brakes. With luck I'll get it repaired for free.

I would bet the mechanic was looking for R to be left of 1st and tried hammering it in gear to force it in. Something misaligned or broke in the shift rail. Now the transmission needs to come out and the shift rail cover removed to see what damage was done.
The rest of the trans isn't going to stick and make the trans unshiftable. So shifter or shift rail.
I guess I'm saying the mechanic broke your transmission or at least hastened its demise.

If the ZF breaks that easy, think I'll just stick to the Torqshift.

And don't ever let your teenager drive your truck. He'll break it for sure.
