Need URGENT help!

I'm working on an 01 F150. 2wd, 5.4 and 4r70w.
I swaped a good transmission out of an 04 crown vic police car into it.

I used the old PRND21 postion sensor and what I thought was the speed sensor.

When I drive the truck the speeo shows 5X my real speed.

He needs the truck back first thing in the morning. What am I missing?
Is the 04 4R70W somehow diffrent in the way the speed sensor picks up than an 01?
If so, I have an 01 4R70W I could put in it. I just hate to do all that work to swap them agian.

I just read through the other thread....
The Police Crown Vics and Town cars use a 4R70W that has a longer output shaft and extension housing. These are NOT direct replacements for the F150 or any other vehicle with a 4R70W.
You must tear down the trans and swap the output shaft and the extension housing with the shorter versions used on the F150. Or, you can shorten the driveshaft if that option is available-there will be less tendency for driveline vibration with the shorter driveshaft. '01 4R70W's and '04 4R70W's use a different tooth count on the tone ring on the planetary ring gear that attaches to the output shaft inside the trans. The only ways to fix that speedo difference is to change it in programming (tuner, etc), or teardown the trans to swap the ring gear on the output shaft.

Thanks Johnny, I was going to send you a pm if I did not find the info I needed.

Cutting the drive shaft down took care of tailshaft length just fine. I knew ahead of time I might run into that.

I have an 01 cvpi transmission. It sounds like when he brings the truck back to me I just need to swap that in. What year did they change it over?

I thought the town car got the short tail shaft?

The change happened around '03-'04..I don't remember exactly.

After some more searching it looks like 02 was the last of the old style and 03 was the first of the new style, at least on the Crown Vic's.

He brought it back this morning and I changed the '04 tranny for a good '01. Speedo and CC both work perfect now. Next time I will make sure I know what I'm doing before I just go around swapping parts.
