flathead performance

I have an early 50's flathead V8 and would like to beef it up to 175-200hp. It is currently stock, 6volt and runs well but would like to see more power. What is the best route to take on this engine with mods and parts. Any help is appreciated. chris

Good luck! It's possible, but not cheap and I doubt it will be a satisfactory engine in a truck (unless you go the blower route). There are many books you can buy that outline the mods needed:

Blown Flathead.com/supercharger/ flathead ford/ roadrunner engineering

Porting the engine is a big help and probably a necessity for the HP you are looking for:

Joe Abbin at Roadrunner Engineering would be happy to sell you a turnkey blower motor, just write a check and you're there!

100-130 HP is reasonably doable without hurting yourself - The price per hp is expotentional from there on.

Stroker is the only way to go. 4" stroker crank, big pistons, cam, shaved heads with some combustion chamber cleaning up.

You will keep with most small blocks unless they are highly modified.
