Well, I finally brought home a 2011 F250, 6.7L Super crew. Wow, that truck is great!!
The family shared in my excitement last night and we were all going to go for the first drive. Imagine my surprise when I realized that the SD has no lower anchors for car seats just the tether strap anchor.
I guess I overlooked this in my test drive, it's MY oversight. I made the false assumption that all vehicles have the LATCH system since 2001. Well, now I know that trucks with this sort of GVW are exempt.
All of you out there that deal with car seats know what a pain it is to use the seat belt instead of the lower anchors. Yes I can still use the truck with a car seat it just drives me crazy getting the seat belt adjusted for this. It takes longer and it is tougher to get everything nice and tight.
This truck is a work truck, but I do take my boys on the road with me sometimes and their safety is paramount for me. I think Ford needs to reconsider this omission, and start putting in this simple safety feature. Both of the competitors trucks have the LATCH system in their heavy duties. I wish Ford would catch up 10 years and put it in! I know this parent would appreciate it!!!

I know your pain! Lived with it during the 90s when my kids were in their rocket seats. It was a royal pain sliding your hand in between and under the seat to get it latched!
But I will say we have come a long way! When I was a kid, I can remember running around in the back seat of my Dad's seatbelt less car.
As a father of twins (5 yrs old) I know exactly what you are slying. We have a '10 Taurus and '09 Murano. The Murano has "floppy" car seat buckles whereas the Ford (and my upcoming truck) have rigid buckles... makes reaching around with one hand much more easy.
How old are your boys? They'll be in booster seats before long. The boosters do not have a provision for the latch and are A LOT easier to buckle.
When I test drove the SD I took my girls to see how much room there was and buckling the booster was not an issue.
My 2011 has anchors behind the rear seat backs where I tie down my two car seats then I still use the seat belts to tie the car seats in. I have two car seats for my kids that are 1 and 2 years old. No problems here so I don't understand what the problem is. My superduty doesn't have less anchors than my wifes Lexus RX.

He's talking about the Latch system; not anchors. And your Lexus has both. I was a little frustrated as well, but once I figured out how to lock the seatbelt it wasn't bad. I can get the car seat just as tight as with the Latch.
I shared in your surprise. We have two car seats, one for each vehicle so after the initial hookup, it doesn't bother me, even though I would prefer to have anchors.
Yeah, it's not a deal-breaker by any means. Once the locking clip has been on the seat belt for awhile it's pretty easy to find the spot again when the car seat has to go out and back in again. We've got one boy in a booster already so I know how easy it will become when our second is out of his car seat!
I think it's just an easy way that Ford could make life easier for SD owners. There must be a good reason they mandated the LATCH system in cars back in 2001. Perhaps more car seats were installed correctly with that system. My wife used to have a job involving car seat safety so if I don't have it all done perfectly, I hear about it!
