Well from what all I understand you will need a ECU for the 351W due to the 88 was a SD set up. .. And you have to make sure your cam is EFI friendly

I am unsure if the 351W and the 302 upper intake plenum are the same.

That's just what little I know about the swap.

You will need the 351w ecu, there is a different firing order unless you went with a maf set up,
The upper and lower intakes are both different from 302 and 351.

The distributor will not work either.

Pretty well everything for efi on the 351 and 302 are different like fuel rail, injectors, intakes. If you want to do the swap I would find a donor motor that is a 351 and grab its ecu and wiring harness, just the wiring harness from the four clips on the inner fender. But for the 302 you have grab the timing cover, water pump, stuff like that.
Also if you have a Y pipe the exhaust is wider on the 351

This is all correct except for the injectors they are the same, but the reason you need the 351 ECU is due to the fueling requirements not the firing order, that doesn't matter with speed density EFI.

Yes go find a truck with a 5.8EFI in it and grab the whole motor but you do not want the wiring harness and do not touch the wiring in your truck it does not have to change at all, just plug in the 5.8 ECU and connect the other end of the stock harness to the new engine. Also note that you need a 28oz flywheel or flexplate to match the transmissin in your truck, you cannot use the one from the 5.0.

x2 big time!

You'll probably want a Crane 444232 or a Comp Cams 35-255-5

And also note that the timing cover, water pump, and accessory brackets do work on both motors
