Help Fuel leak

I just replaced the draing valve orings and fuel filter with a napa gold 3818.

Are these supposed to come with gaskets? I thought not because of their fancy one piece design but my truck is spraying fuel everywhere out of the top of the lid.

What should I do? I tried tightening it but no success. Was I not supposed to get this one wet? I followed guzzles write up and he said get the gaskets wet so I poured some around the lip before I put it on.

Anything I can do besides walk to the parts store for another one?

im pretty sure there should be an o-ring between the fuel bowl and the lid. i also think it has to go a certain way. the last napa filter i had, had an o-ring and the instructions in the box had a diagram for which way it goes in. maybe your old o-ring is still on the rim of the bowl. i would take it apart and look for the o-ring on the edge.

Integral lid

If that is the one with the built in lid, it should have a 1/8 inch thick, 1/4 inch wide gasket with it, I just put one on my buddies late 99 a month ago.

Edit: Give me a few minutes, i have one here, i will post a pic of the lower o-ring and the gasket for the lid.

Reading the paper that came with it I think you're right. Instead of a error free gasket I got a gasket free gasket.

"Error-free gasketing … Our 3818 fuel filter comes with a square-cut gasket – not a bevel-cut one "

The least that they could do is throw in a can of brake cleaner to clean up the diesel fuel that spilled.

Placement

The o-ring goes in the groove on the bottom, and the large flat gasket goes on the lid. i keep that one in my truck as a double spare, if for some reason i break a lid when needing a filter change on the road, i have both. Those flat gaskets are also very nice on the factory lid, its what i have on mine now, as when i bought the truck, it had the napa, so i bought a factory lid, but fuggled the racor gasket, so I reused the napa gasket, its on its 3rd racor now, will have to get another one of these days.

That's strange I got it from Fleet filters. The o-ring was already mounted it was not sealed like that at all.

hmmmm

Wonder if someone figured out how good those flat gaskets are on the factory lid, bought it, put o-ring on, stole gasket, and returned it......

They would of had to mail it back to fleet filters though.

Thanks for the quick response guys I was able to get over there before they closed and Napa gave me a gasket for free.

It seals really well with a gasket.. who woulda thought. Now I have to take a shower and try to get this diesel off of me lol.
