I just replaced the draing valve orings and fuel filter with a napa gold 3818.
Are these supposed to come with gaskets? I thought not because of their fancy one piece design but my truck is spraying fuel everywhere out of the top of the lid.
What should I do? I tried tightening it but no success. Was I not supposed to get this one wet? I followed guzzles write up and he said get the gaskets wet so I poured some around the lip before I put it on.
Anything I can do besides walk to the parts store for another one?
im pretty sure there should be an o-ring between the fuel bowl and the lid. i also think it has to go a certain way. the last napa filter i had, had an o-ring and the instructions in the box had a diagram for which way it goes in. maybe your old o-ring is still on the rim of the bowl. i would take it apart and look for the o-ring on the edge.
If that is the one with the built in lid, it should have a 1/8 inch thick, 1/4 inch wide gasket with it, I just put one on my buddies late 99 a month ago.
Edit: Give me a few minutes, i have one here, i will post a pic of the lower o-ring and the gasket for the lid.
that is them...if i remember correctly...one goes in the bottom and one goes on the edge of the lid. i havent used a napa one for a while. good luck on round 2
The o-ring goes in the groove on the bottom, and the large flat gasket goes on the lid. i keep that one in my truck as a double spare, if for some reason i break a lid when needing a filter change on the road, i have both. Those flat gaskets are also very nice on the factory lid, its what i have on mine now, as when i bought the truck, it had the napa, so i bought a factory lid, but fuggled the racor gasket, so I reused the napa gasket, its on its 3rd racor now, will have to get another one of these days.
