His first isn't popped at 150,000 miles got one from junk yard popped it 10,000 miles later got one rebuilt by beans and popped it 40,000 miles is on #4 I guess now he has had the truck since brand new its a 97
My thought, 150k on original, not bad. 10k on junkyard, luck of the draw. 40k on rebuild, rebuild is a rebuild. Way it goes? Not trying to be sarcastic, just stating my thought.
It is always a "firends truck"...Just kidden ya.
I would look at the connector going to the IDM. If they are filling up with water....(like they do)...then it is bad luck of the draw....if they are not then it maybe a bad connector.
OR It is a bad diagnosis
I dunno, I would almost think that would encourage condensation. There is a "check valve" on the IDM to prevent moisture. If you try it please let us know
Lol I don't knowabout misdiagnosis cuz when the idm pops we usually swap it out with my truck and my idm works on his truck and his won't work on mine he gets a new one and it runs for a bit till it gives up again sometimes it runs on 4 sometimes no start
Could it be the CPS? heating up....shutting down....cooling off...then starting up?
I would take the bad IDM and instal it on your truck and see if you have a "no start"
Is it possible that a bad voltage regulator on the alternator sends too much voltage to the idm frying it? Not sure if that's even possible but just throwing ideas out there
I know one time the ipr harness shorted out on that truck and fried the first idm but we put new harness there and it keeps popping idm. We put his idm on my truck after they pop and my truck no start. I will check the voltage on the truck here in a few days. We r about to put a suncoast tranny in it! Stage 2 billit tc!
