my '74 f100 needs a transmission, the original c6 went out after 2 years of me driving it, it was slipping when i got the truck 4 years ago, i was restoring it, got it road ready, and drove it until the trans went out about 4 months ago, i have a $200 budget to get it fixed and rebuilding it myself is not an option. i really need help with it. thanks
If rebuilding it yourself is not an option then I'm afraid you are SOL. You can get a rebuild kit for around $120 on eBay and buy a book on how to do it for $25 at your local parts store. Other than that you are going to pay easily twice your budget to have someone else rebuild it. Or you can go to your local boneyard and pull one in hopes it is in decent shape. The Pick N Pull near me charges $109+$30 core for an automatic.
I just took my 75' C6 apart today actually. It isn't a complicated transmission to try and rebuild. This is my first attempt at a rebuild and I bought the "How to overhaul the Ford C6 Transmission" video off of ebay. I think it cost $35 and shows EVERYTHING you need to do step by step. My rebuild kit was about $185 but you can get cheaper ones for around $100-$120 off of ebay as well. I have learned, when the extra money can't be spent, you learn to do things yourself. Have confidence in yourself and give it a whirl.
10-4, i can rebuild them but i dont have the same working environment i used to, living in the woods without a garage is not too favorable, and these days i cant really trust people when they say that it "works good"
