Glow plug relay issues

I have a 1993 F-350, 4X4, crew cab, dually, E4OD, 7.3 IDI. The problem that I'm having is that the glow plug light sometimes does not come on. Can be very cold at times and the light still does not come on. Hard to tell if the glow plugs are being activated or not. I just did a voltage test on the supply ( heavy) red cable to the relay, had 11.5 volts, batteries a bit low, and 8.5 volts on the other side of the relay that supplies the glow plugs. Is this voltage drop normal. I understand that there is an ample amount of draw when the glow plugs are activated but I think this is excessive. Does the relay appear to be breaking down?, I've never changed it. Will have to re check after the batteries are fully charged. also, which wire activates the dash " glow plug" light? and can this be easily checked? Thanks, Tom.

Does the relay always click or does it pulse? There is a 200amp draw by the plugs on a 10ga wire that will give you the voltage drop. The 8.5volts tells me you may have a bad plug. Go to the pre-powerstroke page and read the sticky on the new system. If you need a relay ask for one from an 86 350 that will get you just the relay if you ask for one for your truck they will sell you the whole controller at $130
