When I start my 5.4 it ticks for about 1 min. I asked if the lifters needed adjusting, but was told they couldn't. Subsequent starts are ok. It is just that initial start with the noise. Anyone had simular problems? Help!
The ticking is pretty loud. It kinda sounds oil starved. RTP, I see you have Flowmasters. I was considering changing my stock to a series 70. Did the change make a big difference? I guess its something about taking off a perfectly good muffler.
What kind of oil filter are you using? Some cheap filters such as Fram dont have good anti-drainback valves in them. You might want to try a Motorcraft filter and see what happens.

I don't know if the muffler I have is a series 70 or not. My exhaust was a kit from Flowmaster that came with a 3" cat back pipe, muffler, hangers, etc. It was specific for expy/navigator with the 4.6/5.4 engines. You can check it out on the Flowmaster website. You can find the kit on Ebay for about $250.
