I had a no-name brand bottle of "power steering fluid" on the shelf from years ago. It was clear and I presume ASE certified as power stering fluid. Anyhow, I'm off at lunch to get either Mercon or Amsoil and will fush the system.
Anyone seriously believe the intemittent clarinet moaning is going to be fixed by new fluid or am I kidding myself?
Yes, it is power steering fluid but that is NOT what our trucks use. It is what most vehicles use but there is no law or holy commandment that says "Thou Shalt use fluid marked Power Steering Fluid in thy Power Steering system". Now, YOU and maybe the last guy who fooled with it might have added some other stuff that is NOT to be put in there. IDK.
You're not kidding yourself,it was a remedy for many of us in here.
Do the flash with ATF and come back with good news.
Moaning in the vehicle, flashing.
I wonder what the vehicle is saying. "OOOOHhhhhhh Baby.. Give me more of that synthetic lube.......".
I wonder if he can do the flush easier by removing the hose from the PS cooler and just pouring it in. I hope he has another helper to help with his moaner. Truck that is. IDK how to do it with one guy. How would you pour it in and turn the wheel from side to side without having someone in the cab to do it. Unless his arms are that long.
Alright... figured change the rear break pads too while I'm on this truck this weekend. Advance Auto Parts doesn't have the brake caliper reset tool on loan, NAPA stopped loaning tools... Auto Zone is still in that game. Got my Mercon ATF and a full compliment of parts, supplies and a reset tool so I'm ready to go. My 17 year old daughter will be my helper... loves working on cars and the truck with her old man.
He may be thinking of the tool required when you have to turn the caliper piston in order to compress it. Not needed on the Ex - just a c clamp or caliper compressor.
Never pulled the wheels on Big Momma... but assumed I needed a caliper reset tool based on my experience changing out rear pads on passenger cars and vans other rear brake jobs I've done. The tool faclitates being able to screw the rear brake piston back into the housing. If you've come across this before, you'll appreciate the value of this gizmo. (especially if it's a loaner)
