warmdye,

I have changed both shifter ***** (6speed/transfer case) on my truck and WOW are you in for some fun trying to get those stock ***** off! The stock ***** are held on by some kind of glue and are slipped over splines on the stick shift. I tried everything, hitting, twisting, pulling, heating and they wouldnt budge. Finally I used my RotoZip on them. I set my RotoZip depth so it would not touch the stick shift itself, just deep enough to cut the plastic **** and I had them both off in a matter of seconds with no damage to the sticks. I then went to Ford and bought two more stock shift ***** just so I would have them, they are only $8.56 each. My point is, go ahead and detroy them if you have to to get them off, they are cheap enough to replace.

I haven't changed mine, but it keeps coming off when I shift without a full hand grip on it!

I just pound it back on, and it's good for a couple weeks again!

I guess the glue Rockwell talked about wasn't in use back on the 99s. But I have seen the splines! I don't know if it was a press fit, glued on or just beat on style. Wonder how many pennies they saved by not threading the shaft like I'm used....
