4WD Problem

I just got my truck back from mechanics yesterday. Have been driving around no problem, runs great. I took the truck to my neighbors and we noticed that the U join in the rear drive shaft was loose, its the wrong size so tomorrow we are going to a drive shaft shop.

Problem. So the drive shaft is out. We wanted to move the truck forward about 10 ft. I turned on the 4WD and locked them. I then started to move forward (remember the rear drive shaft is out so only front wheels are working) I move about 2feet before i cant move any forward, feels like im pushing against an invisible wall. So we reverseda the truck about 30 yards and parked it in the street. Now even on NEUTRAL it will not push or move forward. We were 3 guys trying to push it but its LOCKED. Yes i unlocked it, but its still locked. Something is going one. Does anybody knwo what the problem is and how to fix it?

BTW, when i drove it forward about 2 feet using front wheels only, i was in 4H.

Need help asap, tomorrow we get the right drive shaft and or U joint.

I would jack each front wheel up and verify that the hubs unlocked. if you watch the joint in axle while spinning wheel. if wheel is free. You need to determine if it wheel end problem or diff problem If you have not used 4wd for a while maybe it was damaged and you didnt know it.

Are you sure the 4WD (front-wheel-drive in your case) works? Have you tried 4L?

ok, we put two stand jacks on two solid bases in the front. Now the front tires are in the air and we can spin them manually. We locked the front wheels, and put the truck in neutral, spun right tire, fine no locking going one. Spun left tire, same thing, we can spin manually forever.

Next, we put the car in 4H and put it in first gear. Released the clutch and both tires were spinning, my buddy was able to stop the wheels from spinning by grabbing the tires with his hand and or putting his foot in the way, not much power going on here. The minute I hit the throttle the wheels stopped spinning, both. Im guessing that the "lock" is "half assed"? maybe its not locking all the way? I dont know. Anyone have any clues as to whats going on here?

Keep in mind you have an open diff so its easy t stop just one tire and the other should speed up when this is done. Do you feel the detent in the t-case when you shift it? The wheels stop but are the shafts turning? check axle shafts front drive shaft. Jack the truck up and make sure the drive shaft is turning then make sure the axle shafts are turning. If they all turn but the wheels don't i suspect the hubs. Pull the 6 allen screws and remove the hub cover and you will see the spring operated center ring in the hub that locks the inner and outer part together. push that in with a couple screw drivers and try to turn thr wheel. You may notice the splines are wore.
