Tranny update

As of right now the truck is minus tranny and transfer case. Sat i got started about noon while i was waiting for my friend to come over after work to finish the removal. I took off everything i knew i could remove. Both driveshafts, starter, inspection cover, drained tranny and converter, and prepared the tools. It only took about 2 hours to get it the rest of the way out. Man i cant beleave how heavy that E4OD is!!!. Two of us could bearly lift it. We droped it off at the house of the guy thats rebuilding it. He said possibly the end of the week it will be done. While its out im gona drain the transfercase and change the u joints in the front drive shaft. Also i have to clean up my oil pan. Its so rusty i think it may be leaking. Might have to tiger hair it. Hey i worked on some valve covers why not give it a try. At least if it is rusted out Now would be the best time to lift the motor and change it.

One qwick question. The rear seal on the transrecase, the one thats between the case and tailhousing about 6" in from the rear driveshaft is leaking how hard is it to change?

I'll keep everyone up to date as i go.

Tranny update

Last night i got everything acomplished that i wanted to. I got 3/4 of the oil pan painted, what i could get to. Got all the rust ground off and sprayed it with extend primed aqnd painted. I ground probably 5 lbs of rust off the front drive shaft got it painted and cleaned the u joint cap bolts. I also got the tranny cooler flushed. Tommarrow i will drain the t case. What is the best tranny fluid. Should i spend the money on something like Royal Purple or some other performance tranny fluid? Whats good.?

Tranny update

Ok the tranny guy called me last night. he said the it would be done today or tommarrow. Total $975.76, the price of the converter went up, the overdrive sprag was busted, and there was a bearing somewhere that was toast se he is replacing it with a stronger one that will be better for towing. He is also putting in an acumulater kit to firm up the shift points. Maybe i'll have it back to gether this weekend.
