Baldwin 5134 coolant filter question

I bought 3 since I installed the setup a few years ago and now need to buy a few more. Anyone have a good site for a good price on these or a comparable good quality replacement?

Remember....non charged

Thanks

Also, I just found this one that bismic is using now that his system is plugging less, and is shorter and less expensive.

Napa's shorter filter is a 4069. Gives you another inch or so if you need it.

Fleetguard also offers a shorter coolant filter, I don't know the number, but I have seen them.

HaHa,I know I use the larger of the two or I would have the number. The Deere filter(RE11992) is used on a couple of other engines of mine, so out of convienence they are always sitting on the shelf.

This isn't the best price I've seen, but it's convenient and the shipping is free.

Amazon.com: Baldwin B5134 Coolant Spin-On Filter without Chemicals: Automotive

They provide the option to do so, however the shipping may not make it worthwhile.

Try to see if you have one near you. They will ship to store for no charge.

I've also found that they may give discounts based on your employer. Never hurts to ask.

Charged filters have an additive in them. See below.

http://www.donaldson-filters.com/000376.pdf

Start at page 94, then you will understand what is in a charged filter.

A "charged" filter is one with a dissolving block of Supplemental Cooling Additive" (SCA) in it. It is how the cooling system was (and maybe still is) maintained on big diesel engines that don't use pre-charged coolant (like Ford Gold or Cat EC-1 rated). SCA's help prevent some of the issues plain ol' antifreeze has in a diesel environment, like cavitation and corrosion, etc.

A "non charged" filter isn't charged. SCA's would be bad in a coolant that is already designed with them built in, like the Ford Gold or Cat EC-1 rated coolants that we should be using.
