6.9 performance mods

Hello everyone! Still working on the 83 beast to get her back on the street again as fuel prices keep climbing. Let's face it- that old 6.9 will get way better fuel mileage than my built 352, just cause I can't seem to keep my foot out of it. Anyway- I am wanting to take my old 6.9 that originally came in the truck, (I own two 6.9 motors) and rebuild it. I believe, even though I haven't torn it down, that I spun a bearing when the oil pump went out. When I rebuild it, I want to beef it up. However, almost everything I have seen so far is for the powerstroke or 7.3. Nothing against those motors, Ford diesels kick a$$, but I don't have a whole lot of money, plus, how many 6.9's do you see out there runnin' with the big dogs? I know there are turbos and such available for it, but they sure are expensive. Can I bore it and stroke it? If I did, wouldn't that just make it a 7.3? What about head work? I really like my 6.9's, they have served me very well, and I really want to stay true to this motor, even though my friends can't seem to understand why. I know there are a lot of diesel gurus here in this site, and I'm seeing more and more of them advertising around town. I just want to build a STRONG 6.9, and stay away from all the expensive electronics and turbos. As always, any input would be well appreciated.

Check out the banks performance page. They have it all for the older ford diesels, turbos, monster exhaust, new pumps, etc......
and i dont think that you need much for a 6.9 any way my buddie has one in his 86' tow truck and it will pull down a house and still go 70.
