I have this posted in the v10 forum already but thought I would try here too.
My 99 SD 6.8 died this morning, it just shut off like I turned the ignition off. after that it will only crank but not start, the scanner only showed one code PO113, which doesnt make any sense to me but OK. I found the EGR sensor had a hole melted through so I replaced it, still nadda. checked for fuel at the rail gas sprays out of valve.... disconnected exhaust in front of CAT, still nothing, sprayed starting fluid into intake.....nothing not even an attempt to start, any ideas guys??
Sounds electrical. Not familiar with the 6.8 but if you're getting fuel, it's got to be electrical. JMO
Does Ford still utilize fusible links? They are fat wires right after the battery. Feel along their length for a weak or mushy spot. If you find such a spot, then it has melted or broke connection. They were used years ago for various applications. Don't know if they still use them or not.
Wouldn't that throw it's own code tho? I know it did on my wife's Oldsmobile Aurora several years ago. ECM maybe? Don't know how many are on your truck. Some vehicles have multiple ECM's.
here's the update....replaced broken Cam sensor, pulled it out and saw a pretty back crack. still nothing, so I started to pull crank sensor. the pig tail for the crank sensor is missing the retaining clip and had slipped off, long story short plugged it back in and fired up the truck!!! spent all day troubleshooting for a wire to be undone all told I am out about 60 bucks for parts and tools, and one whole day shot but a lot of lessons learned. Thank all of you for input. by the way it never did throw a code.
