I just got mine Line-X'd. It brougt my trucks bed back to life. Really made it look new again. I got over the rails done as well, and they had to primer some spots on my bed where there was no paint (so the Line X would stick) I ended up payin about $700 but it was something I had to have.
They told me if you do your own like Herculiner, then ask them to do Line X, they won't touch your truck.
Dad has, I believe, Linex on his Super Duty and it still looks pretty good. It's help up pretty well since 2003. And it certainly hasn't always been easy.
I put Rhino Liner on my Ranger last summer (linex guy retired). It has already faded more than I would have liked. I don't haul much with it, so durability wise it seems to be fine.
It looked amazing when I picked the truck up from the shop. Now it looks like I've left the bed out in the direct sun, in the desert, for about 10 years. OK, so I'm exaggerating, but I wish the color hadn't faded so much. It went from being a very dark, pretty black to a faded mute dark grey in places.
As far as the DIY kits go, I've heard some people say they look great and last forever. I've also heard people say they pealed away within a week. I think it's all in how well you follow the instructions. The DIY kits are designed to take an entire weekend (at least all the ones I've seen).
I used this product call Raptor, its a tintable bed liner and it works great. Its very durrable and not too expensive, I think the kit was $130. I spray all of my bed liners too instead of rolling them.
Bought my truck with line-x. If I ever have to do another truck ill get line-x. Nothing bad to say about it.
Did an F150 with herculiner, looked great for a couple months of hauling 4 wheelers around then it faded and wore off in spots. Have seen DIY kits that look as good as line x, I think its all in the prep, we spent about 8 hours prepping mine. All they give you is a scrub pad and tell you to scuff the paint, I would use something more abrasive like a wire wheel. The spots where it didn't come off were the spots that were already scratched down to the sheet metal.
For the under cab question, there's a guy with a tahoe in the outer banks who line xd all of his sheet metal inside and out and it looks great every year I see it, never even wanted to know what he paid for it to be done out of fear that it would make me cry!
Do you find the line x slippery I did . I have seen the rihno liner years ago and it was not slippery and back then it was garrentied dont know about these days .
I used Line X as well and it is over the rails. Rhino liner has very sharp grit in it where the Line X does not. It makes a huge difference on the knees LOL....
I have had it for at least 5 years and it still looks brand new.
