Bad rings
Whats up all? Havent signed in in a while but believe me ive been visiting the site pretty often. Well if youve read my last thread I had a horrible miss after changing my intake/exhaust gasket. Well ive since then installed lifters, pushrods and rocker arms with no change. Thinking it was the valves I pulled the head and poured water in all the ports. The dead cyls were 1 & 6. Guess which cyls were leaking like niagra... So I just lap the valves and that cured the leak problem. Then I move on to inspect the cyls and pistons. Cyl 1 was worn with 2 grooves. The 4 center cyls weren't to bad. Normal wear. 6 had some wear but not as bad as 1. Judging by the grooves im thinking broke rings. Since I have nowhere at the moment to pull the engine and rebuild I just went to the salvage yard and pulled a decent looking short block for $50 plus crane fee and core. Going to use my head on it and rent a shop crane and drop it in. meanwhile im going to drop my original block off at the shop for bore hone and heat tank. $220 all together for shop. I have to go into work. Will rant later. Have a good one guys. Damn storms here in N. Florida...
