i have searched this forum and found simular posts but here is my problem. last spring my o/d light was flashing, shifting fine and no tach. I replaced that thing on top of engine on driver's side front. (forgot the name) that fixed that. 40 bucks and 30 mins of my time. this winter i threw a rod and bought a replacement engine. 7.3 idi non turbo. my mech swapped intake valve covers and put my turbo on. I picked it up last night and noticed the o/d light flashing, tach working shifts hard from 1st-2nd and 2nd -3rd. 3rd-4th shifts fine. you can turn o/d off rmps go up so that is working. I did have to add two qts of tranny fluid but still shifts hard in low gears. it down shifts fine. any ideas of what the problems is and what the mechanic did or didnt do during the swap. my tranny was working fine before the swap. any ideas of where to tell my mechanic what to check. he is a great engine guy but trannys well not so sure thats why i am asking on here. thanks all
my truck 94 f350 dually 7.3 idi turbo
replacement engine 7.3 idi non turbo, put my turbo on replacement engine.
can you please explain how the fuel pump leveling thing would effect the hard shifting and my o/d light flashing. I am not doubting you just dont understand how the two work together. also how do i adjust the fpil? thanks for your advice.
ther are tourque screws on the ip mount , if they got loose . the fipl, moved, it's spring loaded,, you will see on the mount a slot adjustment, when you adjust the fipl, and feel the spring -tention thghten it up -go for a test ride
i am going to get the codes off the truck. using an OBD1 code reader any special way i need to do it or just plug it in and wait?
I don't think that is going to work. We don't have electronically controlled engines. Maybe the transmission controller has a port on it. Mine is in the engine bay on the driver's side. I don't know if it is OBD compatible, though.

It is OBDI compliant you will get what ever error codes the computer that controls the transmission is catching I think it will also catch any abs brake codes although I am not certain about that last part
There should be a connector on the drivers side fender next to the fire wall.
http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13 Here is a link on how to get any codes without a code reader. You would probably have to wire a meter or test light as shown.
If you are going to buy an OBD1 code reader then you can get an Equus 3145 for around $30.00.
When checking for codes with either, you need to hold the gas pedal to the floor (key on engine off) during the test, otherwise you will get a false TPS code.

Reason: typo
ok upadate. took my truck to the shop. tranny man says he is getting the fipl code, he checked it out and all seems good. trace all grounds and connections. all seem good. he now says that everything seems to be looking like its a bad computer. dont make sence seeming everthing was working before the engine swap. any advice that i can tell him what to check
tranny guy called and said he cant figure it out and that i should take it to a diesel guy in town. so i did. they will look at it on mon/tue. the new place i took it to said you have to set the fipl with a computer. the fipl is set via the voltmeter specs i found on here. but still o/d light and hard shifts and the fipl code still pops up. any ideas what else would keep throwing the fipl code. the first guy put a new one on but it still threw the code. needless to say he put my old one back on.
