Hey, y'all –*After I replaced the turn signal switch/cam/thingie in my steering column, the horn keeps tooting when I make hard turns. The horn didn't work at all before I replaced that piece, but now it's honking one-three times every time I swing the wheel a few times to make a left or right turn (not on gradual highway-style curves).
I'm thinking it's something to do with that new switch assembly, but it's a solid-state unit - any ideas as to what to look for when I yank the steering wheel off again?
I'll check that, co425 - I hope nothing came loose, since it was a brand-new unit.
Yeah, it would be a neat safety feature, but I keep one of my cars in one of the roughest neighborhoods in the SF Bay Area and that damn horn suddenly becomes an UNsafety feature when it goes off on those streets!
On the underside of the steering wheel there is a metal ring that causes the cancel cam to cancel. If the metal ring hits the horn post on the turn signal switch assembly it will ground it and cause the horn to honk every time the wheel is rotated. I had this problem on my truck when I replaced the wheel until it down a bit.
starwriter is on to something...I had a similiar issue...had to set the steering wheel a couple of time because the clip wouldn't sit and would pull out when the wheel was turned
