Back up Lights

Hi everyone,
I want to get my backup lights working. Where would I start with this. I know I have a plug of some sort in the area of the transmission. Would this be what thats for? Is this something that has to plug into the trans some where?

Backup lights

BigBlack71,my 71 has an NP435 and the reverse light plugs in near the top of the tranny with a two wire plug in that comes in from the wire harness along the frame rail. Possibly your plug was pulled out at some time while off road. If you have a C-6 with a column shifter then your backup light switch is on the column under the dash.Sometimes this switch needs an adjustment after many years of service to get the backup lights to work again.I recently adjusted the switch on my 73 C-6 column shift and was able to get the backup lights to work,I tried the same thing on my 72 with a C-6 column shift and was not able to get a signal current to the backup lights. So I need to remove the switch for cleaning or if that does not work I will have to go to a wrecker or buy a new switch. It seems I have seen those switches for as little as $38.00 to as much as $79.00,I will have to do another search.Don't forget to check your wires first to make sure that part of the circuit is good to go.Good Luck.
