Well, after a year of being off the road due to an engine rebuild, my truck breathed new life today when I turned the key. I'm very excited! Next week we'll be doing the final touches (timing, etc) and I'll move it on its own power!! My truck (with good luck) should be driving home in a week!
Hey its a great feeling ain't it! I just had the same feeling, even if it's just around the block, it felt so good to hear it and actually drive it again. Congratulations, many people give up and sell it as parts, so it is worth tooting the horn for sticking with it.
Yeah, that was my biggest fear the day I took the motor out. I had a long look at the old truck.. rusted, tired, worn and figured "it's never going back in". I thought I would get too busy and just let it go, but I stuck to it! Hearing it run last night was music to my ears. Next week at class we will finish timing it, make sure everything is tight and take it out for a spin! So far no leaks, etc.. everything looks good. After a few guages get fixed, its time for some bodywork...
Now that my truck is back from the dead.. I am looking at new distributors. I would like to move away from points, if possible. I was looking on summit racing and I saw that they had Mallory electronic ignition distributors. Is this a good brand? Is there something better out there? Im not looking for super high performance, just a nice replacement since my distributor could be replaced (its in questionable shape, but it works). It has a 360.
Well, I finally drove my truck home Monday night for the first time in a long time. From the getgo it already has a noisy lifter . I don't think there is much I can do about that except pull the intake and replace the lifters.. thats gonna suck now that the motor is back in.
Also, my newer carb (a Holley) decided to gush fuel out of it last night out the accelerator pump.. and I blew an exhaust gasket as well... grrrr...
