as far as adding a lil more power to the efi, here are my plans,
0 deck, maybe 30 over bore, head work, with a custom cam. add in a good ignition system and fuel system with an adjustable fpr and i will go from there.
i hope to get on a dyno before and after.
it might get a turbo if i can get it to run good.
i dont know if this was suggested but you can put 19lb injectors in it, all you gotta do is install an adjustable fuel regulator to drop pressure to 35psi, rather than the 65psi required for stock 13lb injectors. it keeps the bigger injectors from running to rich. they will help you get full use of a larger cam. holley makes a nice adjustable regulator for round 70 bucks and you can usually get a set of injectors for 6 bucks at a junk yard. just make sure they have an orange top, 4.6s 5.8s and 5.0s all have them.
what lifters and push rods would you use with that crane cam? just stock? and whats the chevy roller rocker part number you where talking about?
You can use any brand of lifters you want as long as they are flat tappet.
Use stock p-rods if they are straight (roll on glass to check).
Not sure of part number for SBC roller rockers...
Hey fe390bb,
Through the part number up for the adjustable FPR so everyone knows which one you are talking about. It's nice for future readers to know the right part numbers for pieces they'll need for such conversions... Especially if they are newbies to the ford I6 world. I'm thinking you're talking about the 512-500 but I could be wrong (I already have extra 19 lb injectors so I am good there!)
Whats your current set up for your engine? What kind of differance do you notice with the 19# injectors?
I have the 19# injectors but don't have them on yet... I have them leftover from a 351w build. I still need to get a FPR. Need money to complete the project which is hard right now with my job being up in the air. I have 100 different truck projects to do and some of them will have to wait. The injectors and FPR is one of them. Just fixed my rear sway bar and hope to have it back on with Moog bushings soon. Then it will be over to my dad's truck (red 83 below) and get his Offey DP, 4bbl, 260H cam, timing set, lifters, head work (p&p with rebuild), etc... I have a rebuilt 351w waiting for a new home which may or may not happen b4 or after my 300 I6 EFI mods. I need a little more power and if I don't find a truck for the 351w I'll need the extra power out of Thumper... Kinda all just depends on what happens in the next month or two.
As for the question on the set-up of my engine. Currently it's stock with a 3G 130amp alternator and real time OP guage. I spent the better part of the winter fixing everything on it... breaks, break lines, bushings and sway bar problems, oil leaks... I still need to get my speedo gears replaced but after that she'll be in tip top running order and ready for some mods. I hate to be so practicle b/c I know others are waiting to hear my results but I figure your truck better be in good shape before moding it. It doesn't make much sense to blow all your cash on mods and then have something like a tie rod, alternator, etc break and have no funds to fix it... Oh almost forgot I'll probably be doing a E-fan conversion this summer too.
Not sure if its apples but my I6 ended up with a small crack in the oil pump pickup tube that was causing pressure to vary wildly.
This does make a big difference... Next time you do an oil pump make sure to check it for cracks or if you are like me... clean your pickup tube with break parts cleaner and seal both ends with duct tape, then immerse in water and check for bubbles...
